Tracks
1
Electric tramcars and horsedrawn landaus on the Promenade at Manchester Square, Blackpool, on August 15th, 1976.
2
An introduction to Blackpool tramways in 1976. On September 29th we jump on board double-deck tramcar 708 as it leaves Rigby Road depot and threads its way through the trackfan in the forecourt. It stops for the conductor to reverse the trolley pole then moves into Lytham Road, stops for the signals at Manchester Square and goes into service on the Promenade.
3
A description of the Blackpool & Fleetwood Tramroad and a ride from Fleetwood to Rossall on September 29th. This is one-man single-deck car 9, rebuilt in 1974 on 1934 motor bogies. We board the car in North Albert Street, grind along Lord Street, stop at Ash Street then speed along sleeper track through Broadwater to Rossall, alighting at South Strand.
4
Manchester Square, Blackpool, on a wet night in October, 1976. Two single-deck tramcars roll by, southbound, followed by double-decker 708, which stops for the conductor to set the track switch for Lytham Road. A northbound single-decker passes. Car 706 waits for the green signal then swings across Manchester Square into Lytham Road, bound for the depot.
5
At the National Tramway Museum, Crich, Derbyshire, on October 25th, 1987, an ex-Glasgow Corporation tram, Coronation car 1282, built in 1940, emerges from the car shed then runs by down the street.
6
We ride on board Glasgow car 1282 for one mile along the museum track on its first run of the day non-stop from Town End to Wakebridge loop and Glory Mine terminus. We hear the characteristic sound of the electro-pneumatic control switchgear in the cabinet under the stairs. The noise of the electric air-brake compressor dominates the arrival at the terminus.
7
Glasgow standard tramcar 812, dating from 1900, drones by along the museum street.
